The temporary nurturing base for Chinese sturgeon has contributed much to the preservation of the species. The base provides visitors a good oppor-tunity to see these strange-looking creatures and learn more about them.
Wanjin Ornamental Fish Base, cover-ing an area of 11.7 hectares, also has a museum and an agricultural garden.
If you go: Take Hujia Highway (S5) and exit at Jiading Town, turn right on Shugou Road, turn left on Chenliu Road M., turn right on Baoqian Road, then turn left on Fuhu Road to the Wanjin Ornamental Fish Base.
The golden fish corridor in Wanjin Ornamental Fish Base is 350 meters long. There is a pond to breed fish that will be exported. During the World Expo Shanghai 2010, dozens of precious golden fish were showcased at the world fair for a week.
There are about 32 ponds displaying the rare golden fish. For example, one pond showcases the 96 golden fish whose fry was purchased from Japan at 80,000 yuan (US$12,647) each in 2003. Some of the fry have grown to full size and meet quality standards in Japan. These fish are in demand in Japan, Europe and the US.
