Ink-wash Paintings

The young and middle age artists¡¯ salon of the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy was founded in 2006 and now has 22 artists. This exhibition displays their works that show their unique vision, diversified art explorations and a variety of themes.

Bamboo Carving

Jiading bamboo carving is China¡¯s national level intangible culture heritage. The art uses knives as pens to integrate art fields such as calligraphy, painting, poetry, prose and seal-carving. This exhibition will display some outstanding bamboo carvings which display the precise techniques and innovations used.

Thangka Masterpieces

A thangka is a painted or embroidered banner which was hung in a monastery or a family altar and carried by lamas in ceremonial processions. It has a long history, and is very religious and ethnic. It is unique in Tibetan culture in China and once dubbed the encyclopedia of Tibet. The exhibition will display the work of talented painters from Tibet¡¯s Shigatse region.

Clay Figurines

Huishan clay figurine is a clay figure-making art in Huishan, Wuxi City in Shanghai¡¯s neighboring Jiangsu Province. It is now a national level intangible culture heritage. The most famous clay figures of the art are da¡¯afu, two babies representing good harvest season, peace and harmony. It is also the symbol of auspicious blessing, happiness and good luck.

Comedy Shows

On the eve of the Lantern Festival which falls on March 4, several famed artists from Shanghai People¡¯s Comedy Troupe will show off their prowess in Shanghai dialect in a bid to make you laugh.

Lecture

The Glamour of Chorus

Choral singing is a serious art, which requires harmony of tone and parts as well as balanced volume. The art requires strict and scientific training to achieve good performance effects. Professor Shi Lin will bring residents to feel the glamour of chorus art.

Confucius'Benevolence

The Confucius ideology of benevolence has been one of the sources of the Chinese national spirit, parts of Chinese civilization, standards of Chinese values and rules of Chinese ethics. This lecture will give the audience a deeper understanding of the ideology of benevolence.

'A Dream of Mother'

Li Zhiguo was sentenced to prison for an impulsive attack several years ago, leaving his mother alone at home. When he was released, he decided to fulfill her mother¡¯s dream to visit Tian¡¯anmen Square in Beijing. Since he had little money, he eventually rode a tricycle carrying her mother to the capital.

'Big Hero 6'

Adapted from comics, the story takes place in fictional metropolis San Franskyo. A young genius Hiro Hamada discovers a hidden crime which will endanger the high-tech city. To save the world, he establishes the Big Hero 6 with his robot Baymax and some rookie friends to fight against evil.

'Jupiter Ascending'

The story happens in the distant future, when gene modification is common. People integrate their own genes with animals¡¯ to increase their strength, while unmodified humans become the bottom level of society. A human female, played by Mila Kunis, is being hunted by the queen of the universe because she has the same genes as the queen.

'Beijing, New York'

In 2008, China enjoyed rapid economic growth while the United States suffered a financial crisis. However, in Beijing and New York, the two cities of thousands of miles away, people from different cultural backgrounds were still pursuing their dreams and searching for happiness.
