Jiading Library is holding a series of holiday activities for primary and middle school students featuring lectures on solar terms, Chinese characters and garbage sorting, a reading event and several movie shows.
The 24 solar terms are honored as China’s fifth ancient innovation. They came into being after a long term of observation and research on astronomy and meteorology by ancient Chinese.
Based on the solar terms, ancient Chinese people arranged their agricultural activities and even their daily lives.
Jiading Library will invite experts to introduce solar terms to pupils through activities such as cartoons, interactive games and nursing rhymes.
A lecture on how to use an electronic Chinese dictionary will also be held in the library during the winter vacation. Teachers will teach children how to use the e-dictionary by showing cartoons, telling stories and introducing interactive games and riddles.
An ancient Chinese poetry reading event for children will take place at the library to mark the Chinese New Year. Children wearing ancient Chinese costumes will take part in chanting poems.
Lectures on garbage sorting will be held to teach children the importance and application of garbage sorting. Activities will include recycling, DIY and parent-children handcrafting.
Besides, movies such as “Epic,” “Coco,” “Mr Peabody & Sherman” and “Planes” will be projected at the library during the vacation.
